Head of Commercial

Level: Head/ VP, Leadership Team Member

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Travel: 50% minimally

Position Summary:

The Head of Commercial will ultimately be responsible for the commercial success of the company on a global basis, driving revenue growth and expanding market share for our business while ensuring customers regardless of their size will receive the same level of uncompromising service across our Cell Therapy service offerings in Process & Analytical Development and GMP manufacturing. The incumbent will build and lead a high-performing sales and business development team, develop strategic and tactical sales & bd plans, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Strategy and Leadership:

  • Develop and execute sales strategies aligned with overall business goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the sales team to achieve targets.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to adapt strategies.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with marketing and technical teams to enhance product positioning and value proposition.

Revenue Generation:

  • Set ambitious sales targets and track performance against KPIs.
  • Drive revenue growth through effective sales techniques, negotiation, and account management.

Market Expansion:

  • Identify new market opportunities and develop entry strategies.
  • Expand the company’s footprint by targeting new customer segments and geographic regions.

Sales Operations and Reporting:

  • Oversee sales forecasting, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Provide regular reports on sales performance, pipeline, and market insights.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with operations, quality, regulatory, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless product runs.

This breadth of role requires an innovative and deeply experienced leader who brings a blend of sales, business development and marketing plus strong team and cross-functional leadership along with global experience and cultural sensitivity to work across the leadership team, with customers and market stakeholders to drive commercial growth and excellence of the highest quality, as the company expands its capabilities to support clinical and commercial manufacturing.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • BS in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering or related field required
  • 10 to 15 years related CDMO experience required, including but not limited to Sales & Business Development, Commercial Development, Cell & Gene Therapy
  • Sales & BD team leadership and cross-functional management expertise gained from positions of increasing responsibility at CDMOs
  • Must have proven track record for developing and implementing Sales & BD strategies, identifying and closing PAD and GMP manufacturing agreements, partnerships. Delivering sustainable results in revenue growth, operating efficiency and improved profit performance.
  • Experience in partnering and / or driving CDMO marketing to support brand awareness, lead generation and offering creation
  • Demonstrated track record of Sales & BD in Cell Therapy PAD and GMP manufacturing
  • Ability to use analytical tools and KPIs to assess and drive performance of Sales & BD team
  • Proven knowledge and experience in pricing, contracting, negotiating, change management, structuring of sales quota goals, and revenue expectations
  • Technical knowledge of CRM platforms, and general knowledge of online marketing (SEO/SEM) and web analytical tools experience expected
